Gettorf – Monitoring fill levels in aggressive fluids often proves difficult as sensors are chemically vulnerable. The new EGE level controller UFGS solves this problem: the compact opto sensor can be used in fluids like acids, bases, oil, fuel, solvents or detergents. The sensor is manufactured from stainless steel 1.4571, its glass tip is sealed with Kalrez (FFKM). The fill level is detected by means of infrared light: when the sensor tip is immersed in the respective medium, the light beam is diverted and no longer shines back into the sensor, but into the medium. The sensor continuously analyzes the reflected signal and uses it to actuate the PNP switch output. This method works irrespective of the conductivity of the fluid medium, which renders any adjustment to the fluid unnecessary. A special model which is connected to an external amplifier is available for explosive media. Just like the standard model, it is suitable for a temperature range of -25...+70 °C. The sensors are available in different lengths, additionally, customer-specific requirements like special lengths or materials can be implemented.
